All Children Deserve Health Care

Back in 2000 George W. Bush declared that he was a compassionate conservative and that he would make a good president. It is amazing to even me, someone that did not support him, how wrong he has actually been. I have spent many years in politics and I know that leadership is making decisions and sometimes these decisions upset some people and I might not agree with all of them all of the time. I can accept that as I know that while I wish I did that I don’t have all the answers. However what the president did this week is just plain wrong.

This week with the stroke of his pen the president wiped out health insurance for millions of our nations children. He is trying to justify it by saying that the program is to expensive and that it is the beginning of socialized medicine. Mr. President with all due respect no program that can save children’s lives could ever be to expensive and yes in the richest and most affluent country in the world everyone not just your rich friends should have health insurance. Not only is it morally and ethically the correct thing to do but it also is the more practical and economic thing to do as well. Healthy children will have a better shot in school and also have a better chance of growing up to be healthier adults. To jeopardize that is just plain wrong.

Lets hope that over the next few days the U.S. House of Representatives can find the 15 or so votes they will need to override this veto and save these children from this horrible situation.

All people deserve the right to have affordable, quality health care and I am so glad that there are people running to be our next president like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Edwards that will see to it that this happens.

We can spend billions to bomb children in other countries but not more to cure our own.

I’m glad we have our priorities straight.
