The Aviator

Last night a few of us went to the Senator Theater to watch the movie “The Aviator”. It is a movie about the life of Howard Hughes. While the movie was long, around 2 hours 45 minutes, I still enjoyed it. I like movies, books, shows about true things so I thought this movie was interesting.

There were some scenes that really struck me. I don’t want to talk about it a lot here in case anyone reads this that has not seen the movie but there was one scene I have been thinking about this morning. It was the scene where Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) is lower than he has ever been, he has had a total meltdown yet he has to regain himself in a few days to fight Congress to save himself and his business. There looks like no way he will be ready and his doorbell rings and it is Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale). Now understand the last time they were together he hit her and she hit him and thru him out of her house yet here she was there for him even though he probably did not deserve it because she was his friend. After helping him through some tough stuff there is a line where the audience has to be asking why after all he has put her through she is still there and she just says because “you would have been there for me”. This scene got me thinking about my own really good friends and how there are times that they have been there even when it is hard to be and how blessed I am to have them in my life. God has blessed me with many things but I think the fact that I have friends that will be there no matter what is one of the biggest.

The movie has a lot of twists and at times can be disturbing and long but I still suggest seeing it. It showed me about a man that aquired every dream he had yet he still was not happy and it helped me to think about what really is important.
